Conquering the DAT:
The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is designed to provide dental schools with common measures for comparing the qualifications of their applicants. The exam measures general academic aptitude, comprehension of scientific information, and perceptual ability. The test is offered exclusively on a computer and consists of a battery of four distinct tests: Survey of Natural Sciences (biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry), Perceptual Ability (visualizing in three dimensions and angle discrimination), Reading Comprehension (ability to absorb information, finding the main idea, ability to keep track of information) , and Quantitative Reasoning (algebra, word problems, basic math, geometry, trigonometry). The DAT is administered year-round on a computer at Prometric Test Centers. The exam costs $225 and two forms of identification are required. The length of the exam is four hours and fifteen minutes. To register for the DAT, click here.
Students most often struggle with the Perceptual Ability and Reading Comprehension sections, as they are the most difficult to study for in a short period of time. While there are several test preparation companies out there, not all of them are created equally. If your DAT scores are lopsided then consult with Dental Admission Strategies® to find a solution. |
