Where Should I Apply To Dental School?

There are 59 dental schools in the U.S. (60 including Puerto Rico). Of those 59 schools in the U.S., a total of 55 participate in the AADSAS® application process. U.S. dental schools that most recently granted accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation: Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ and Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA. Midwestern University was approved for initial accreditation in February 2008 and enrolled its first class in Fall 2008. Western University of Health Sciences was approved for initial accreditation in January 2009 and enrolled its first class in fall 2009. Midwestern University has plans to open another dental college in Downers Grove, IL which is tentatively scheduled to welcome its first class in the fall of 2011.

One must be very careful when choosing which dental schools to apply to – not only because it’s expensive but because other dental schools have ways of finding out which other dental schools you have applied to. If you apply to too many schools, then you risk seeming indecisive and uncertain about any school, and if you apply to too few schools then you increase the chance that you won’t get admitted to any dental schools. After analyzing your profile and discussing your priorities, Dental Admission Strategies® can help you decide the ideal number of dental schools that you should apply to. Our service can not only save you thousands of dollars on AADSAS®/TMDAS® primary fees, secondary fees, DAT score report fees, and travel/accommodation costs to interviews, but it will also allow you to strike a happy medium between the two extremes. Dental students are often surprised that they get rejected from their “safety” schools and accepted at their “reach” school, so put our years of dental admissions experience on your side when making this tough call.
